Walking through the Old City lately feels like catching a glimpse of Knoxvilleās future while keeping its history close. This week, we are looking at the deep roots of our neighborhoods through African drumming and storytelling events.

If you are looking for a place to celebrate Valentine's Day later next week, the atmosphere shifts toward those warm and fuzzy feelings with The Vultures. It is a local anchor where the bartenders know your name and the country music keeps the winter chill at bay.
From the weekend live sessions to the famous $5 solo cups, it remains a reliable piece of our neighborhood fabric.

š„ Free Health Clinic This Weekend

The Gist: Remote Area Medical is hosting a free pop-up clinic at the Jacob Building from February 6 through February 8. Neighbors can access dental cleanings, eye exams, custom eyeglasses, and general medical care on a first-come, first-served basis. No insurance, ID, or proof of financial need is required to receive help.
Why It Matters This clinic removes the common barriers to healthcare, ensuring everyone in our community can stay healthy and cared for regardless of their circumstances. The parking lot opens at 11:59 p.m. this evening, February 5. Doors open daily at 6 a.m. through Sunday.

The Gist: Knoxville is coming alive this February with a beautiful lineup of events honoring African American heritage. You can explore the vast archives at the Beck Cultural Exchange Center or stroll through Morningside Park to see the tribute to Alex Haley. From the vibrant Cal Johnson mural in Burlington to striking glass art at the Knoxville Museum of Art, our city's streets and galleries are filled with stories of creativity and resilience.
Why It Matters: It is a special time to walk our neighborhoods and truly see the deep, lasting impact Black neighbors and leaders have made on the place we call home. Mark your calendar for the Roots & Rhythm Family Day on February 28 at the Beck Cultural Exchange Center for African drumming and storytelling.
