πΈ The 808 music venue opens on SevierThe Gist: Industry veterans Brian Coakley, Scott Campbell, and Collin Stover have officially opened The 808, a brand-new music venue at 808 Sevier Ave. in South Knoxville. The team spent a year and a half transforming the 5,000-square-foot former Drunk Church building into a 440-capacity concert space. Why It Matters: Having a dedicated mid-sized venue right in the neighborhood gives South Knoxville locals a cozy, walkable spot to catch live music without heading across town. The 440-person capacity hits the perfect sweet spot for attracting bigger touring acts while keeping that intimate, community feel.
π¨ Artist recreates East Tennessee storefrontsThe Gist: Carmen Alcocer has transformed familiar East Tennessee landmarks into detailed miniature cardboard models. Now living in New Orleans, Alcocer uses Google Maps' Street View and early-morning crafting sessions to recreate remembered places and stay connected to her hometown. Her complete collection of regional miniatures is currently on display downtown at the Emporium Center. Why It Matters: As rapid development reshapes the Alcoa Highway corridor, these tiny replicas preserve a snapshot of cherished local businesses before they disappear. The exhibit offers locals a nostalgic, joyful way to reflect on the changing landscape and celebrate the enduring value of community roots.
