Mid-April might be the sweet spot in Knoxville. The weather finally cooperates, everything is blooming, and the calendar starts filling up fast. You can feel Dogwood Arts season settling in across the city, even before the big festival weekend hits.

This week is a good reminder to not overthink it, just pick something and go. There is plenty worth stepping out for.

Songs for Your Story takes your senior's name, memories, and inside jokes and crafts them into a fully custom, professionally produced song. Play it at the party, drop it behind the slideshow, or just send it to them on the big day. Give them something nobody else will think to give.

🌸 Dogwood Arts Is Having a Full Month of It

The Gist: Dogwood Arts, the organization behind Knoxville's signature spring celebration, is running programming throughout April leading up to the Dogwood Arts Festival on April 24–26 at World's Fair Park. The month includes mural and trail programming, neighborhood dogwood route maps, and the full festival weekend featuring 100+ juried artists, two music stages, interactive workshops, and a local Maker Market. Admission to the festival is free.

Why It Matters: The Festival is in its 65th year and has been recognized as a Top 10 U.S. art festival by USA TODAY. For readers who haven't made it yet, the April 24–26 weekend at World's Fair Park is the anchor event. It's consistently one of the most photographed and attended weekends of Knoxville's year.

🚲 Coming Soon: Gay Street Goes Car-Free For Open Streets

The Gist: Bike Walk Knoxville is bringing Open Streets to Gay Street for the first time on Sunday, May 17. From 2 to 6 p.m., the stretch from Summit Hill Drive to Hill Avenue (including the Gay Street Pedestrian Bridge) will be closed to cars. It’s a free afternoon for neighbors to bike, stroll, or scooter through the heart of downtown.

Why It Matters: This turns our busiest downtown street into a vibrant community space, letting us enjoy the city without traffic. It’s a great way to support local vendors and catch some live street performances while catching up with friends on the pavement. Grab your bike or walking shoes and head to Gay Street on May 17 to enjoy the car-free festivities.

The industrial-cool atmosphere of Abridged Beer Company manages to feel curated yet completely unpretentious.

While the craft drafts are a draw, the kitchen steals the show with the signature Abridged Burger, layered with a hint of heat that keeps locals coming back. For something lighter but just as thoughtful, the grilled Pickle Ranch Chicken sandwich is a standout.

Their locations are neighborhood anchors that make even any weekday feel special.

πŸ“– Dusty spines and stories worth keeping

126 S Gay St, Knoxville, TN

At Addison's Bookstore, there is a specific, comforting scent that only exists among rows of old bindings and well-loved pages.

Spending an afternoon on Gay Street often leads to browsing shelves filled with everything from pocket-sized treasures to rare, centuries-old editions. The atmosphere stays quiet and welcoming, perfect for admiring a 1538 Latin text or finding a thoughtful graduation gift.

This month, the classics book club is expanding to two separate sessions for a discussion on Ursula K. Le Guin.

🐾 Gloria J. Wonky is a two year old orange tabby

Weighing about nine pounds who brings a delightful spark to our Tennessee neighborhood, she has a unique look following corrective eyelid surgery and communicates through hilarious, opinionated chirps rather than scratches.

While she adores licking your hands and leaning in for affection, she prefers keeping her paws on the ground. She is great with other cats and calm dogs but requires a home with children over ten. Her adoption fee is 100 dollars.
