There is a certain rhythm you can feel it this week. The parks are full, downtown has that steady buzz again, and the calendar is doing you no favors if you were hoping for a quiet weekend.

Between art shows, baseball, and a few really solid concerts coming up, you have options in every direction. The only real question is how much you can fit in.

🚧 Nightly Paving Work Starting On I-275

The Gist: TDOT is repaving I-275 from I-40 to I-640 every Sunday through Thursday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Weekend work is also scheduled from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Crews began the asphalt milling on April 19 and will keep one lane open at all times, starting with the southbound side.

Why It Matters: This is a major artery for our neighborhood, and while the night work keeps daytime traffic moving, it means being extra careful on late-night drives. Sticking to I-40 or I-640 as a bypass will help you avoid the squeeze and keep our local road crews safe. Expect these orange barrels to stick around until the project wraps up in mid-to-late summer.

🗿 Four New Statues Now Stand at Delaney Plaza, Honoring Legends with Deep Knoxville Roots

The Gist: The Beck Cultural Exchange Center and Boyd Sports unveiled four bronze statues at Delaney Plaza near Covenant Health Park on April 16, honoring figures with meaningful connections to Knoxville's African American heritage. The four honorees are Nikki Giovanni, the legendary poet and activist and longtime Knoxville resident; Ruth Cobb Brice, author and artist; Ida Cox, pioneering blues musician known as the "Uncrowned Queen of the Blues"; and Beauford Delaney, one of the most important abstract painters of the 20th century, born in Knoxville in 1901. The statues were created by sculptor Brian Hanlon, who is the official master sculptor for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Why It Matters: For anyone who hasn't spent time with Beauford Delaney's story specifically, the Knoxville Museum of Art holds the largest public collection of his work in the world, in their Higher Ground exhibition just a short walk away. These statues are worth going out of your way to see.

🏹 Bold urban western flavors and white-linen warmth

100 N Central St, Knoxville, TN

Lonesome Dove offers a backdrop for the moments that deserve a little more gravity. The space balances historic Old City bones with a moody, candlelit hum that makes the world outside feel miles away.

Leaning into the adventurous side of the menu with their signature elk sliders or sticking to a perfectly seared tenderloin? The experience remains unhurried. It is a local anchor that manages to feel both deeply rooted in tradition and effortlessly stylish, making even a mid-week lunch feel like a quiet celebration of the good life.

🎨 Quiet corners filled with treasures

5072 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN

FIG & Company has a way of making every corner of a home feel a bit more intentional. The collection is full of thoughtful touches, like watercolor books for a quiet afternoon of creating or journals for a graduate to record their next steps.

You might find yourself lingering over the realistic florals, fragrant candles, and high-quality jewelry tucked throughout the space. There is a real warmth here, where the team is happy to wrap a gift with a bow or help you pick out a small trinket dish for a nightstand.

It is a local staple for those one-of-a-kind finds that hold a lot of meaning for the people we love.
